Having decided to invest in a car SatNav I bought this as I think the TomToms look 'childish'. The NavMan is a great product - quite well packaged and reasonably practical.
Driving from the South Coast of England, to Munich in Germany, then on a tour of Italy and the Italian/Austrian Alps during the summer the unit was very helpful - although the maps are admittedly slighty out of date, it was more reliable than the paper maps I had (whose scale was never going to help!)
There are problems - the unit power is limited and after a while audio was lost in part (but recovered after leaving unit to completely depower for a period of several weeks!). I am also finding it hard to locate updated maps for this model (not available even from NavMan), but that's no biggie.
In the main, its a good tool, the coverage is excellent (even if sometimes the GPS does take a while to 'lock' and rerouting a moment extra to 'understand').
It would be great if you could adjust routing according to 'local knowledge' and vicinity to destination (i.e. use more urban routes around the destination/start point) and motorway/autobahn to cover larger intermidiary distances, but heh we all have our prefs. :)
The unit does tend to fall off the windscreen - although I hav'n't had the screen smash (if it did Id buy a new satnav...) - which is a bit of a nuisance esp. when your on your own!
Navman ICN 550 - 12 Dec 2006

Possibly the worst product I've every bought over the net. Within 3 weeks the battery failed, The maps are poor, to many times the postcode search and the house number search come up with no matches. My house is 156 years old and according to this unit it doesn't exist either by postcode or street addr. It's difficult to get in and out of the screen mount and after 9 months the screen mount broke. To Cap it all NAV man have just announced they are no longer supporting the product.
I'll never by a NavMan product again.
Navman 550 With Traffic Module - 02 Nov 2006

I decided to purchase these items over the Tom Tom range for a number of reasons. Firstly you get all the maps for Europe pre-installed onto the unit, as well as on the supplied CD's. Secondly all of the maps fit easily onto the 4GB hard drive, allowing plenty of room for adding your own points of interest (POI's) which can include speed cameras and the like. Thirdly the traffic module, although a bit unsightly with its extra wire that requires fixing to your windscreen, works flawlessly in the background. Lastly this product comes complete with case, screen mount holder, cigarette socket charger, remote control, plug adaptors for Europe and all the other necessary cables (including the USB one). The buttons to locate the nearest fuel stations and car parks are another excellent feature and really save you all the hassle of driving around or having to stop and ask for directions. Taking all these points into account and having used it for several months now, I can thoroughly recommend this product.

I initially had a navman icn510 which did the job but after a year i thought i had to upgrade the product since the new memory cards with new map data on were quite expensive. Enter the navman icn 550 with maps of all of europe and a traffic module. I must say that the unit itself is a little bulky but what it contains such as the 4gig hard drive and a memory card input, the latest gps reciever i you cant really complain. The traffic module is very useful although i must say setting it up in the car can be quite a pest but once it is up then its very good and i have not had any problems with it as of yet and ive had it for about 3 months now. I have an apartment in spain and i have used it to get me there, the mapping was excellent and the route was quite close to the route that i usually take so i cant fault it there.
I would seriously reccommend this product
Very disappointing - why is there no zero star option? - 04 Aug 2006

I bought an iCN550 about 4 months ago and have had a problem with infra-red port interference.
Not all the maps are up to date and the `back on track' feature is very slow.
More recently, the unit fell off my windscreen and the display smashed. Navman say that because the display is so durable, it is not covered by warranty; they want £160.00 to repair it! STAY WELL CLEAR OF THIS PRODUCT.
