5 Reviews for TomTom ONE Great Britain GPS (with Bluetooth)
Excellent, just don't use Tom Tom home - 30 Oct 2007

This is an absolutely superb navigator, I travel a lot for work and use it all the time. When I first got it, I used TomTom home application on my PC to back up the data, but like so many other people ended up with a corrupt SD card. Luckily, I managed to change it. I haven't bothered with TomTom Home with my new device and, from what I've heard its best not to.
Carry a Paperclip in Your Car - 23 Sep 2007

Great piece of kit that is very easy to operate. Never had any problems with it after downloading extras like novelty voices and using the tomtom home website. Just stick in the postcode etc and away you go. For a non-map reader like me that travels all over it's been a godsend. Would have been a 5 but its let me down once on the road once. Needed to reset it 20 mins into a journey from Somerset to Manchester and nothing fits that little reset hole quite like an unwound paperclip so I keep one in my car nowadays! Another small gripe: like a lot of products these days it doesn't come with a case and you really do need a case for it. Halfords etc are flogging them for £20 and to be frank they aren't worth £5 never mind £20. So buy an original one with the tomtom one off here or get a cheaper copy. Another word of warning: it does exactly what it says, and will plan most direct etc. route. This sometimes means up very narrow and potted country lanes more suitable for an off roader not a Ford Focus! Otherwise a great buy and i'd recommend this to anyone.
TomTom ONE Great Britain GPS - 17 Sep 2007

I bought my TomTom One v2 three weeks ago and have to say initially how please I am with it. However, when updating it on the TomTom `Home' software application, which comes out of the box with the unit, it immediately alerted me to update the Home application from v1.5 to v2.0. On doing this it also alerted me to update the device to v7.120. All this crashed and locked my device. The TomTom specialist team admitted that the updates sent out to all were being investigated by their technical team to investigate an issue that has caused many devices to crash like mine. So beware, some devices have been sorted but mine was corrupt so I sent it back to Amazon who where fantastic in sending me a replacement almost immediately. I contacted TomTom again to ask why they hadn't put any info about the issues on their web site but got a strange answer that "it was a licensing issue" - I work in IT and even I don't know where they were coming from with that one!. I'm still using my new TomTom without updates (apart from GPS fixes) until TomTom sort them selves out. I've had a few glitches with this replacement but I'm trying it out before getting yet another replacement. So far so good and when it works it's excellent. Would have been 5 stars where it not for the above issues with TomTom support.

I was a bit wary at buying this at first after reading stories of tom toms leading people off cliffs, through rivers and into space and what not....but what a load of b#$£#@ks. If you regularly update yours via tom tom home it will help minimise this, and mine has been spot on everytime ive used it. Its accurate down to a few metres and way more intelligent than my map reading wife. So, my advice is to go with this or one of the other tom toms and never get lost again. Simple.

As usual with a TomTom device, this is well made and is very easy to use. GPS lock is fast, and routing is sensible. Re-routing is rapid and good too. I'd recommend this product overall.
But, be aware - it's cheap for a reason. You get the minimum you need to get going with this. You don't get a case or bag of any description to keep it safe. You also get a cheapo windscreen mount, which - as others have highlighted - has a tendancy to fall off when you least expect it (or want it) to as it doesn't lock on. The mount with the old TomTom go 310 was much better.
And lastly, buy this being aware that you will get NO SUPPORT FROM TOMTOM. As they've got bigger and more popular their product support has got worse. You'll be doing well if you get to speak to someone at all (and it'll be at a premium rate). If you do, you have a 99% chance they won't be able to help you - this is from personal experience.
Overall, brilliant device that easily would get 5 stars but is let down by awful support and cheapo peripherals. It's a testament to how good it is that I'd still give it 4!
